In light of the common myths and tropes that we often hear about Islam and Muslims, how can we respond in a way that can make a difference? On March 15, the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, this workshop will help people to more effectively address anti-Muslim discrimination and messaging within their own communities.
Participants will explore effective messaging strategies to uplift a vision for a more inclusive and pluralistic country where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. This interactive virtual workshop - featuring content curated by Shoulder to Shoulder, OverZero, the Institute for Social Policy & Understanding, and ReThink Media - will give - will give participants the opportunity to:
Explore facts and data about American Muslim communities;
Unpack why negative speech resonates and how it impacts our communities;
Learn and practice tips for addressing anti-Muslim discrimination and Islamophobia in every day conversation and in public messaging in a way that actually moves people.
